In this 5 week course we will explore the elements of visual language in order to help you to determine the visual priorities in your paintings. The first two classes will be structured around underlying elements of formal language: line, shape, form, texture, and space. We will explore these visual vocabularies primarily through abstraction, considering how these elements interact, balance, and guide the viewer across the canvas. The third class will focus on colour and the inter-relation of value, hue, and chroma. The final two classes will help you isolate recurring marks and shapes to form a unique, consistent artistic voice in your work. The demos will be conducted using acrylic paint, however, you can choose to work in any colour medium that suits you.
MONDAYS, SEPT 21 - OCT 26 6 PM - 9 PM (PDT) ONLINE
(no class on OCT 12, Thanksgiving)
Classes will be conducted over Zoom. Each course has its own website that includes images of demos, exercise descriptions, and a link to the video recording of each class. You also receive a link to a dropbox folder for you to upload images of your work to discuss in class.
